Why we started en:graham
en:graham is the result of frustration with current corporate media ecosystems: constantly needing to choose between a higher subscription rate or keeping your photos and memories, feeling trapped by subscription fees to enjoy music you've loved for years (and realizing that streaming services barely pay artists anything), and "buying" movies just to realize they only work until the license expires.
Owning your own data and media collection has always been possible, but until a few years ago the conveniences that came with corporate streaming services weren't available with self-hosted, open source platforms and therefore weren't a realistic option for most people.
The open source ecosystem is now mature, convenient, and secure enough to really begin to compete with giant corporate conveniences.
